As I discussed in my recent post about Continuing Disability Reviews, for people receiving disability benefits there is never a guarantee that you will continue to receive benefits in the future. This can cause issues when you are trying to document your income in order to get a home mortgage.
In the past, some mortgage applicants reported being asked by mortgage lenders for information about their disabilities or for statements from their physicians about the likely duration of their disabilities. In a bulletin released recently by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, mortgage lenders were reminded that they cannot force folks receiving Social Security Disability benefits to do additional paperwork that is not required of other borrowers.
