Correcting your earnings record

Social Security stopped mailing paper Social Security statements in 2012.  However, you can still get access to your wage earning record either by logging in to myssa.gov or by going to your local field office and requesting a copy.

We encourage our clients to get an up-to-date copy of their wage earning record.  It is important for you to double-check to be sure that the statement is accurate.  If you find that the statement is missing historic wages, you should immediately take steps to try to get the record corrected.

First, collect any evidence that will prove your earnings.  This could be a W-2, pay stubs, or a tax return.  Then provide this information to Social Security with the request that they correct your earnings record.  Missing wages can negatively impact your disability or retirement eligibility or benefit amount, so it is in your best interest to be sure you get credit for all of your earnings.
