For people with disabilities seeking Supplemental Security Income (SSI), it may come as a surprise that your housing situation will ultimately impact the monthly SSI amount you are owed.
After a finding of disability, Social Security then analyzes the person’s household income, assets, and living situation. Social Security calls the categories for housing “Federal living arrangement” categories.
In the Notice of Award, people will see that they will be assigned one of four living arrangement categories for each month of eligibility. Here is a description of each of the four categories:
