STCN commuter cyclist and bicycling advocate Cynthia Newton presented “Rules of the Road When Out and About Town” at Ride Like a Girl’s July 19th ride through southeast Portland. The presentation focused on tips for riding in city and neighborhood settings. Lively discussion broke out on several city cyclist topics including respective driver and cyclist responsibilities in “right turn” situations, how to safely execute left turns, and rules and practicalities of using crosswalks. Drawing from her experience litigating bicycle injury and wrongful death claims, Cynthia combined citations to the rules of the road from Oregon’s vehicle code with common sense tips on how to enjoy safely cycling in Portland’s neighborhoods.
