When will we give returning vets the help they need?


Today, the Oregonian reported that as many as one in five veterans of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are believed to suffer from PTSD.

This is a staggering statistic that deserves our attention.  PTSD, an invisible impairment, takes its toll on the lives of veterans, their families and their communities.  According to the article:

Untreated trauma often leads victims to abuse alcohol or drugs. And if those conditions aren’t treated concurrently, they can spiral into unemployment, clashes with the law, homelessness and suicide.

The fact is, PTSD can be treated.  Our vets deserve at least that from us.
