Many of our Social Security disability clients are sent by Social Security for an examination by a “consulting doctor” (CE) who is paid by Social Security.
Often, we find that the Social Security consulting doctors report results very different from what treating doctors report.
Why is that?
We believe that it’s because these doctors may not have complete files so that they can better understand existing medical history and because these exams are typically very short.
Here’s what you and your lawyer can do to ensure the best possible exam:
- Provide the consulting doctor with all of the records
- Remember that from the moment you enter the consulting doctor’s office, you are being observed. Every thing you do, from hopping on an exam table to failing to report your physical or mental limitations…will affect the doctor’s report. Be detailed, be complete and be honest.
