Fibromyalgia currently is a condition for which medical treatment is not covered by Medicaid’s Oregon Health Plan. Instead, Fibromyalgia is lumped in with other soft tissue/myalgias. (In contrast, corns/calluses, allergic rhinitis and sexual dysfunction are reimbursable.) Oregon happens to be the only state in the nation that does not cover Fibromyalgia with Medicaid. Fibromyalgia advocates tried to get coverage for Fibromyalgia about five years ago, without success.
Has the tide turned?
Oregon health policymakers are considering including fibromyalgia, meaning that Oregon Medicaid patients might soon have access to physicians, providers, diagnosis and treatments. The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) will meet on October 10 to consider this issue.
